There were 11 players in the Keiki (children's) section. The winner
was Jordan Sergent and the runner-up was Daniel Munoz. I don't have a
good cross-table because the kids had some problems in reporting their
scores and I had to make some judgments. Play was 4-round Swiss
system, 2 games per round, GAYP.
There were 4 players in the Adult section (a little disappointing).
Anthony Bishop came from Tennessee to vacation and play! The
cross-table is attached; we did a round-robin with 2 games (GAYP) per
round. Anthony Bishop was the overall winner. Steven Hoo was the
high-scoring Hawai`i resident and is declared state champion. Runner
up is Leona Sewake.
I need to sort out my dozens of photos and will send both of you a
half-dozen of the best ones tomorrow (Sunday) Hawaiian time.
First prize in the children's division was a $50 gift certificate.
Second prize was a $25 gift certificate.
In the adult division, Mr. Bishop declined to accept his prize money,
generously asking that it instead go to Hawaiian residents. Mr. Hoo
was awarded a $100 gift certificate and Ms. Sewake, a $50 gift
certificate.
Mr. Pang, the organizer, is to be congratulated for raising $225 in
prize money for a tournament that had no entry fee.
